We’ve been looking for a larger house for a while now so while I was walking to the park with my daughter today I was really excited to see a beautiful old house for sale. It’s only a couple blocks from our place now, well made (over 100 years old) GORGEOUS!! So, when we are [...]
“Susan Boyle, the Britain’s Got Talent star, has topped the US charts and set a first week sales record for a female debut album.Having leapt straight to number one with the album in the UK, I Dreamed A Dream sold 701,000 copies in the US in its first week. The huge sales put Boyle, 48, second only to Snoop Dogg’s debut album Doggystyle, which in 1993 sold 803,000 copies. SuBo beat competition from American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert, whose debut charted at number three. The Official Charts Company said on Sunday that the album had sold over 410,000 copies in the UK since it was released, making it the fastest-selling album of the year so far.I Dreamed A Dream also takes the title of the biggest first week sales for a debut album in chart history and one of the biggest first week sales for any artist album in chart history.Martin Talbot, managing director of the Official Charts Company said: “Susan Boyle’s achievement is quite phenomenal.”After all of the excitement surrounding her appearance on Britain’s Got Talent, everyone expected her to make a big impact when she released her first music – but to arrive with such a bang is exceptional.”
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this woman. She has one of those rare voices that makes you cry, gives you goosebumps. But it’s not just that – I love the fact that this woman was the last person you would expect to have a voice like a goddess. Maybe these reality shows are actually doing something good. Can you ever see this lady being approached by a music industry executive? No. Why? Because she doesn’t fit their opinion of a “star”. I love the fact that we get to show these guys that we don’t really give a damn what these guys look like – we love a beautiful voice. It kind of makes me sad to think of the number of people in this world who also have an amazing talent, but will never be heard because of societies preconceived notion of what a “star” should look like – maybe that isn’t right, maybe it isn’t societies preconceived notion. It seems to me that society is telling the music industry that they would rather listen to a gorgeous voice on a woman who looks like a school teacher than listen to a so-so, electronically enhanced voice of a young, sexy singer. Susan Boyles extraordinary album sales have proven this and I am tasking all music executives to get their butts out there and find us some more of these amazingly talented artists.
Yeah.. The first time I heard her sing on TV, I had the same facial expression as everybody else there. She’s a little dorky, despite her age and maybe that made her look a little “weird” to some but maybe it’s also just coz she feels a little awkward. No matter what the reason is, she’s just brilliant. Incredibly brilliant.

Susan Boyle is an amazing person, not only because of her talent but because she was able to overcome adversity that plagued her throughout her life. There are no doubt many more like her who will hopefully feel inspired. It’s a sad situation that it takes more than talent to become a “star.”
Imagine a world where every human being got to fulfill their God-given potential. I think about this all the time when I see the world’s disadvantaged and wonder what gift they have to give the world that we’ll never get to see.
