This morning I woke up and was sad surprised to hear that the schools were closed for the day. I guess I didn’t realize that we weren’t just getting a little rain, but were actually getting a Nor’easter. I’m trying to hurry and type this post because our power has gone off twice. The rains been coming down since yesterday, winds are blowing and the streets are flooding. Norfolk is right on the Chesapeake Bay and we are surrounded by water so we get flooded when we have a 5 second shower so storms like this guarantee rivers of water everywhere. The meteorologist is saying that the flooding we be worse than the last hurricane we had. Here’s a before and after, with rain and without:

Here’s how close we are to water (these are both about 1/2 mile from my house) – the water is the Elizabeth river which leads to the Chesapeake bay which lead to the Atlantic Ocean – it’s kind of scary living here when you think about what could happen with a really bad hurricane:

The kids also got yesterday off because of Veterans day which also happens to be my daughters B-day – she always gets her birthday off. Birthdays are a lot of fun – because we don’t celebrate Christmas we kind of overdo it on birthdays and get everyone presents on everyones birthday.
