Sending Your Kids to the Lions Den

My last post was about my son being robbed and assaulted on his way home from school.  Since that post the kid who assaulted him has plead guilty to felony robbery and will be sentenced next week.  In the mean time he was placed in an alternative school but is still out running around doing [...]

To All Perfume Marketers – GET A CLUE!

Posted on01 May 2009

bigstockphoto_woman_spraying_per-featuredI am going to make this post simple and to the point.  I am calling out all perfume marketers.  I know the recession is hitting us all hard, but, let me give you a bit of advice – quit wasting your money on print ads without the scent strip in magazines!  I don’t give a damn what a bottle looks like.  I don’t care if it’s Gucci, Versace, or Dior – All I care about is if I like the smell.  Now here is where the real problem is.  I don’t shop at stores anymore.  I hate malls.  I buy everything online.  I also read every fashion magazine out there because it’s the only way I can get through my 60 minute daily treadmill torture routine.  I see all of those beuatiful perfume ads but if you don’t spend the extra money for the perfume strip, what’s the point?  I have probably bought 50 different types of perfume because I smelled it in a magazine and I just don’t understand why anyone running a marketing campaign would put a picture of a perfume bottle with NO Scent – I usually get so irritated with these guys that I subliminally hold a grudge.  I know I’m pathetic for allowing such a trivial subject to annoy me but it really gets me worked up.  I use perfume every day – I love perfume – I like trying new scents – PLEASE  if you are a marketer of perfumes don’t waste my time with a print ad unless you give me a scent with it.  What’s the point?  I have never run out to a store because I SAW a perfume I wanted – but  I will jump online in a heartbeat to buy a perfume I smelled in a magazine.

Good post, and agreed. How are we supposed to know how a perfume smells, if all we can see is a bottle and a name? And it’s not like the names are descriptive of the scent… Victoria’s Secret just came out with a line of fragrances called Silk, Satin, Cashmere and the like. I can understand that they’re trying to evoke these feelings in scent, but I have no idea what those would smell like. Most perfumes are a complex mix of many individual scents… so it’s near impossible to describe them, you have to smell them for yourself.

I buy stuff online too. Going to the mall is very tiring. Plus you have to walk all around. It makes me dizzy. I love perfumes too. Like you, I like it when they put some scent on their prints so that I will know if I would love it or not.
