Sending Your Kids to the Lions Den

My last post was about my son being robbed and assaulted on his way home from school.  Since that post the kid who assaulted him has plead guilty to felony robbery and will be sentenced next week.  In the mean time he was placed in an alternative school but is still out running around doing [...]

I Aint Got No Health Insurance

Posted on16 Feb 2009

I got a letter from my sons school last week informing me that he needed to get a shot before heading into 6th grade.  There goes another $160.  Why?  Because I don’t have ANY health insurance.  You think that’s stupid?  I have 3 kids they could get sick or hurt at any time and then where would I be?  I think it’s pathetic.  Pathetic because there is no way I could afford the $800 a month it would cost me for health insurance.  Of course, I make to much money to get any help from the government.  My husband and I make pretty good money.  We own both our cars and our condo.  The only credit card we use is American Express (which gets paid off every month).  But, we also pay child support for one child from a previous marriage, $600 a month  and we pay my mother-in-laws rent, $465 a month – because she’s a pain in the ass.  Now I understand why there are so many people who stay on government aid.  You can bust your ass and make a good amount of money and STILL not have enough to meet the basic needs of a family.    I should divorce my husband and sign up for medicaid.   When will this country ever get it’s act together?!  Every rich corporate guy is up every other rich corporate guys ass – sending this country into the worst recession ever.  What’s next?  The only way these idiots are going to continue making money is to continue sucking it from the guys who don’t have any.  I guess then we’ll have to go back to indentured servents and slavery.  I have this teeny, tiny, sliver of a glimmer that Obama can bring about some positive changes.  PLEASE don’t let me down!

I feel your pain. You represent a LARGE population of people doing the best they can to survive and take care of their children and are getting shafted by the health care industry and the government who have let the industry/ corporations get out of hand. Hard-working people making an honest living should not have to worry about whether to feed their children or take them to the doctor. My heart goes out to you and your family because it wasn’t long ago when we were there. I cried myself to sleep many nights wondering how we were going to make it. Change does come! I can only hope things will change for you and that your family’s health will become a priority for our country’s leaders. I hope Obama is the catalyst we need.

I think its completely irresponsible that you don’t have health insurance for your kids yet you pay your MIL’s rent? Tell her to go out and get a job and pay her own rent. Does she realize she’s sitting pretty so you can struggle? The reason the ecomony is failing is not because of rich america but because American’s expect to sit back and get hand outs. Obama’s for that though…..

This is just one of the many things which is wrong with the world. BTW Obama doesn’t want “free” healthcare. He made a statement about it in 2004, but then while running for President he changed it to ‘inexpensive’ healthcare and a ‘healthcare reform’. It is a myth that he actually wants universal healthcare.

Anyway, this is sad even without healthcare. When I was young, there were free children’s clinics set up and gave out free vaccinations. When I was around 15 they were all closed. Then, the schools began offering free vaccinations. Now, they no longer do.

Really, really odd situation. Schools use to have actual nurses. Now, most no longer do.

The situation in America is really scary. I’m not that old ~25, but there have been so much changes in the health system within the past 10-20 years it is ridiculous.

Healthcare in America is upside down meaning that it’s expensive because so many people do not have it. Go sit in a hospital Emergency Room and watch what people without insurance are coming in to have treated, I promise you will be shocked!! I’ve also seen people call for an ambulance because they need their prescription filled…………..yes you heard that correctly.
The problems with healthcare come from the ills of society and from those that would rather sit on their asses and not work at all and collect from those of us who do work.

I feel for families like yours that are trying to afford a decent well balanced life for their family and not shirk their responsibilities (like taking care of an aging parent, paying their child support, paying your taxes, and paying their bills).
    You deserve decently priced healthcare.

Everyone could have healthcare if everyone was willing to pay for it.
